Just hit 500 miles on the same pair of trail runners and I'm shocked

Honestly, I was ready to swap them out at 300 miles like everyone says. But I kept a log and they're still feeling solid, no major tread loss even after the Lost Coast Trail section. Ngl, I think the key was rotating them with an older pair for road walks to town. Has anyone else pushed a specific shoe model way past its supposed mileage? I'm curious if I just got a lucky pair or if the Altra Lone Peak 6s are just built different.

...and that's exactly how I ended up keeping my boots for like four years longer than I should've, because they felt fine on the outside... but it's kind of a bigger thing in life where we just trust the number instead of actually paying attention to what's in front of us. Like with food expiration dates, or replacing your phone because it's two years old even if it works perfectly fine. The 300 mile rule is just a guideline for normal use, but if you're taking good care of your gear and paying attention to how it feels, you can push way past that. It's wild how much we let other people's arbitrary numbers run our decisions without ever questioning them.

Yeah I used to swap shoes out at exactly 300 miles like clockwork, but this post has me rethinking that whole approach now.

What made you stick with the 300 mile rule for so long? Was it more about the cushioning feeling dead, or just seeing other runners talk about it as gospel? I used to follow that same number but realized my lightweight trainers last way less than my daily cruisers.
