Just realized my map app was lying about the John Muir Trail altitude

I hiked the section near Thousand Island Lake last week and my GPS said 9,800 feet, but my paper topo showed 9,650. Turns out the app was using an old DEM dataset, off by nearly 150 feet in places. I switched to the CalTopo offline overlay and it matched the actual cairns perfectly. Has anyone else caught their navigation app giving wrong elevation on a well known route?
