My tent pole snapped on day 2 near Snoqualmie Pass

The pole on my old Big Agnes broke right where the shock cord goes through, just as a storm rolled in. I ended up splinting it with a trekking pole and duct tape for the rest of the 14 mile stretch to the campsite. Has anyone else pulled off a field repair like that, or do you just pack a spare section now?
