The creek crossing on the Eagle Rock loop near the 7 mile mark has a log bridge now and it kind of bugs me
Hiked the Eagle Rock loop down in Arkansas last weekend and got to the crossing where the trail dips into the creek around mile 7, and somebody has built a pretty sturdy log bridge over the whole thing. I get why, the water was up past my knees in March and I fell in once and soaked my sleeping bag, so I'm not mad about dry feet. But here's the weird part, the old route that dropped down the bank and forded at the shallow spot is still worn in and easy to follow, so I ended up taking that by habit before I even saw the new crossing. The logs are set good and the mud around them is packed down heavy, so people are clearly using it. It just made me think about how a route you've hiked a few times gets set in your head, and a small change throws you off more than it should. Anyway, if you're headed that way, the crossing is easy now, but watch the blazes on the far bank because they're still cut for the old low route. Has anyone else run into a stretch they know well that got rerouted or bridged and felt sort of weird about it?
