Warning: the guy at the outfitter in Flagstaff said to skip the Kaibab loop in June, he was dead right
I ran into this older hiker named Ray at a gear store in Flagstaff back in 2022 and he told me point blank that the Kaibab loop gets brutal by mid June because there is zero water and the rim gets to like 95 degrees. I ignored him that first year, tried it in early July anyway, and tapped out around mile 14 with a headache and half my water gone. Went back the next spring in May like he suggested and it was night and day, 70s the whole way and the springs on the north side were actually running. Anyone else had a random stranger's route advice save their whole trip, or the opposite?
