Wasted 4 hours trying to filter water on the PCT near Mount Whitney

I ran into a problem where my pump filter clogged up after 20 minutes in a silty creek. Had no backup. Spent the next 4 hours boiling small batches and digging holes to let sediment settle. Should've carried a spare filter or pre-filter. Anyone else carry a bandana or something to strain the big chunks first?
