My little 40 gallon pond in Tucson finally cleared up after 3 weeks of green soup
Three weeks ago I dug a 40 gallon pond in my backyard here in Tucson and filled it up, and within four days it looked like pea soup. I tried barley straw, I tried a tiny UV light, nothing did much. Then a guy at the local pond shop on Speedway told me to just be patient and let the plants catch up, so I added hornwort and a few water lettuce and left it alone. Last Tuesday morning I walked out with my coffee and could see all the way to the bottom, even spotted one of my two goldfish cruising around. I know it sounds small but I actually yelled for my wife to come look. How long did your first pond take to cycle before the water stopped looking like a swamp?
