Had to pick between a plastic shed kit and building my own from scratch
My old metal shed in the backyard collapsed after a heavy snow in January. I looked at a 7x7 foot plastic kit for about $400, but worried it would blow away. I decided to build a small wood shed myself using leftover fence boards and some new plywood. It took two weekends and cost me maybe $150 total, but now I'm worried about rot setting in because I didn't treat the wood well enough. Has anyone else built their own and had issues with weatherproofing?

How long ago did you build it? I slapped some leftover deck stain on mine and it's held up okay for a few years now...

So you're telling me your leftover stain is still holding up, @abbyp61? I'm jealous. Mine looked fine for about eight months, then it started to bubble up like bad wallpaper. I guess my deck just has a personal grudge against cheap fixes.

Ugh, I feel that. My old deck looked rough after one winter because I cheaped out on the sealant. @abbyp61, using leftover stain is such a mood. I tried that on a bench once and it peeled in strips by spring. Sometimes the quick fix works, sometimes you're just buying yourself a year of okay before it all flakes off.
