I finally sorted out my shed's drainage issue

Water was pooling around the base and ruining some of my stuff. I dug a small trench to send it away, and now everything stays dry. What tricks do you use to keep water off your storage spots?

That gravel tip from fiona_garcia is a solid move for hidden damp. The trench is good for the big puddles, but you gotta fight the small stuff too. It's all about keeping things dry from the ground up.

Have you heard that tip about putting a layer of gravel under the whole shed floor? I was listening to some home repair podcast and they said it creates an air gap so moisture can't wick up as easy. It made sense because my old metal shelves in the garage still got rusty even without puddles. That hidden dampness is the real problem... it gets everywhere. Your trench idea is smart for dealing with the water that you can see.

Was it really that bad though? Sounds like a small fix for what was probably just a bit of damp.

Totally agree, damp always seems minor until you live with it. We had a patch in our old place that ruined a whole wall of books before we noticed. It's never just a small fix.
