My cheap shed foundation finally sank. Here's what I did instead.

Put a 10x12 shed on packed gravel in my Austin backyard two winters back, thought it was solid. After that big rain in March the whole back corner dropped 4 inches and the door jammed. Ended up jacking it up, digging 6 piers down 18 inches to the clay, and pouring concrete collars around each one. Took me a full weekend but it's been level through two more storms. Has anyone else tried the pier method on a slope or should I have just paid the $900 for a proper slab?

Clay in Austin is the real wildcard, it swells like crazy when wet and shrinks when dry. Did you backfill those piers with anything to stop the heave from jacking them up next summer?

Yeah, that swelling clay is a NIGHTMARE here, hope yours holds up.
