My old shed door hinge trick finally bit me back

Been using coat hanger wire as a pin on my shed's hinge for like 8 years since the real one snapped, worked fine through two winters up here in Portland. Last week I went to grab the lawn mower and the whole door came off because the wire wore a groove into the frame, took me a whole Saturday to patch it with wood glue and a new proper pin. Anyone else got a janky fix they've been meaning to replace before it breaks?

Eight years on a coat hanger pin is honestly a flex, but the real tragedy is that you trusted it with a lawn mower of all things. That's the universe telling you it was time to retire the workbench miracles. I had a similar setup holding my gate latch with a zip tie for three summers, and it only died when the neighbor's dog decided to test it at full speed. Now I keep a box of actual hardware in the shed, but I still look at the zip tie stash with respect. Bet that wood glue patch outlives the next proper pin anyway.
