My shed door handle gave up right as a storm rolled in

I was in my backyard trying to secure my shed before the rain hit last Thursday, and the whole latch assembly just snapped off in my hand. Had to use a bungee cord and a cinder block to keep it shut for the night. Anyone have a good replacement latch that can handle a bit of wind?

My buddy Dave had the same thing happen except his latch broke in the middle of a windstorm and the door swung open and smacked him right in the face. He ended up getting a heavy duty hasp with a thick stainless steel padlock, the kind with a rubber cover over the lock body. That setup has held his door shut through some serious gusts and he's never had an issue since. What kind of lock are you thinking about putting on the new hasp?

Ugh that's the worst timing! Honestly, skip the basic latch and just get a hasp and staple with a padlock. The whole point is that wind can't jiggle it open if it's actually locked. A latch by itself can still bounce up in a serious gust. I learned this the hard way when my shed door blew open and ruined a lawnmower.

That's solid advice about the hasp and staple. My neighbor's shed door actually flew off last spring during a storm, just from the latch bouncing. It smashed his greenhouse. What kind of padlock did you end up using, one of those weatherproof ones or just a standard combination lock?

Actually, a combination lock can freeze up in winter weather too.
