My shed door hinge gave out right before a big storm

The whole thing sagged and wouldn't close, so I had to prop it with a cinder block for two days while I waited for new hardware. What's the best heavy-duty hinge you've used for a wooden shed door?

Have you tried those heavy strap hinges?

Honestly, what are you hanging that needs hinges like that? I see them on big barn doors and heavy gates, but for most indoor stuff it seems like overkill. Unless you're building something truly massive, a standard hinge should do the job just fine. Feels like a solution looking for a problem half the time.

Yeah, jessem59 hasn't tried a solid wood door yet...

You know, I used to think like jessem59 there - figured standard hinges were fine for just about everything. But then a couple years back I had a similar situation with a heavy wooden gate, thought I'd save a few bucks with regular hinges, and within a month they were pulling right out of the wood. Picked up a set of the big black strap hinges from the local hardware store, the kind with the long screws that go deep into the frame. They've held that gate steady through storms, snow, and my kids swinging on it. So I'd say go with those heavy strap hinges - they're worth the extra few dollars for the peace of mind.
