Why does nobody mention the 8 foot rule for shed roofs?
I was building a small shed in my backyard last month and kept running into issues with the roof pitch until my neighbor came over and pointed out the 8 foot rule. Basically, if your shed is wider than 8 feet across, you need a stronger rafter setup or the roof will sag over time. I had to rip out my first attempt after wasting $60 on cheap lumber. Has anyone else made that mistake or found a workaround?

Man that's rough. I feel your pain on wasting that $60. I learned the hard way too when my 10 foot wide shed roof started dipping after one winter. The 8 foot rule is real and nobody talks about it because most shed plans online are for tiny 6x8 prefab kits. For wider sheds you gotta sister the rafters or use thicker stock like 2x8s instead of 2x6s. I ended up putting a ridge beam in mine and it solved the sag completely. Just sucks that you have to find out by trial and error.
