Why does nobody talk about the weight limit on those plastic deck boxes?

I had my old one full of pool stuff and garden tools for about three years, and last week the whole bottom just cracked open when I moved it. My neighbor saw it happen and said, 'You know those things aren't made for that much, right?' Has anyone else had one fail like that, and what did you switch to?

Honestly, that exact thing happened to my old box full of car wash supplies. The bottom just split right along the seam one hot day. I switched to one of those heavy-duty totes with the thick walls and the locking lids, the kind you see at hardware stores. It was a bit more money but it hasn't cracked yet.

I mean, my cheap plastic bin has been in the sun for like three years and it's fine. Maybe you just got a bad one.

Huh, I used to think any bin would do the job too, but after reading all this I'm honestly rethinking my setup. The sun really does a number on that thin plastic over time.

Wait, the bottom split open while it was full of car wash stuff? That must have been a huge mess to clean up, soap and wax everywhere. I can't even imagine trying to save all that stuff before it ran into the grass or the driveway. Makes total sense to get the tough tote after that kind of disaster.
