My tip calculator at a diner in Philly broke the group bill for 8 people

Last Sunday I was at a diner near Reading Terminal with 7 friends. The guy next to me used a tip calculator app and it added 18% to the subtotal, but then he divided it by 7 instead of 8 because he forgot himself. The bill came to $214.60, so the app said each person owed $38.30, but the real amount was $33.50. We only caught it because the waitress pointed out the numbers didn't add up to the total. I still carry a paper receipt and do the math in my head now, honestly saves me the headache. Has anyone else had a group bill go sideways because someone trusted an app over basic addition?

The math part is simple. You add up the total and divide. That app just made things worse for everyone. People lean on their phones too much for stuff they can do in their head. Good on the waitress for catching it. Most folks would have just paid and moved on.
