Warning: my chemistry prof docked me 15 points for rounding wrong, and she was right
Back in community college in Boise, I had a habit of rounding every number in a problem to the nearest whole number so the math would go faster. My prof handed back a titration quiz with a big red circle around my final answer, 4 mL, when the real answer was 3.8, and wrote "your shortcut is lying to you." She made me redo it showing every decimal place, and I got 3.76, which was off by enough to fail the whole experiment. That one comment stuck with me more than any lecture because I could see the wrong number staring back at me. Now I round at the very end, if at all, and my lab reports have stopped getting flagged. Anyone else get humbled by a teacher who caught a shortcut that felt totally fine at the time?
