Warning: spent 45 minutes trying to figure out why my tip calculator kept giving 40 percent at a diner in Boise
My buddy and I grabbed breakfast at a diner in Boise on Saturday and the bill came to $37.50, so I pulled out my phone to split it. I punched in 20 percent but the screen showed $15.00, which is 40 percent, and I could not figure out why for the life of me. Turns out I had typed the total into the percent box and the percent into the total box, and it did exactly what I asked it to. What is the dumbest thing your calculator has tried to convince you was correct?

Laughing at this because the same kind of thing bit me, but in the other direction. I kept getting a crazy low tip once and swore the app was broken, except I had swapped things around too and typed the percent into the total box. What really gets me is that the math was right the whole time, both boxes just got fed the wrong numbers. The app can't tell you mixed up the inputs, it only knows what you handed it. So the calculator never lied, you just asked it a weird question.
