My ex-boss swore nobody would ever pay for a fence they can see their neighbor through
I was loading cedar pickets into the truck at our yard in Bakersfield when he told me that, dead serious, like it was gospel. He ran that crew for 11 years and would not hear one word about semi-privacy panels, said they looked cheap and nobody wanted gaps at the top. Six companies in town started offering them that same spring and we lost three bids in one week to a crew charging $6 more per foot. Has anyone else had a boss who dug in on something the market clearly wanted?
Man, that stubborn streak runs deep in this trade. I watched a guy in Fresno lose his crew because he refused to touch anything but dog-eared cedar, swore the new composite stuff was a fad. Two years later half his old customers had gone to the guys who would actually build what people were asking for. The market doesn't care what you think looks cheap, it just walks down the street to whoever says yes.
