TIL that wiping down my windshield wipers with a dryer sheet stopped the horrible screech, after I spent $42 on new blades that did nothing

Ok so I feel dumb even typing this. My wipers were making this awful rubber scraping sound for about 2 weeks. Sounded like a dying bird every time I used them. I figured the blades were shot so I went to the auto parts store and grabbed a pair for $42. Put them on. Same noise. Almost worse. My neighbor saw me messing with them in the driveway and told me to just rub a dryer sheet along the rubber. Something about the rubber drying out and the wax in the sheet fixing it. I tried it because what did I have to lose. The noise is gone. Completely gone. Been 3 weeks now and it's still quiet in the rain. I paid $42 for blades I didn't need when a single dryer sheet from the laundry room did it for free. I feel like an idiot and also like I need to tell everyone I know. Anyone else been humbled by something this cheap and dumb?
