A food blogger told me I was ruining my cast iron with soap and I pushed back for months before giving in
I kept seeing this one blogger with a huge following saying you should never use soap on cast iron, just salt and oil. I thought it was total gatekeeping BS and kept washing mine with dish soap like normal for like 2 years. Then I noticed my eggs were sticking way worse than my buddies pan who followed her advice. After a 3 month test where I only used hot water and a scrub brush, my seasoning built up way better and food stopped sticking. Makes me wonder how many other kitchen myths I've been clinging to just cause I hate being told what to do. Anyone else have a cooking tip they ignored til it bit them in the ass?

Kept insisting my stainless steel pan didn't need preheating for years because it was just one extra step. Ended up with a chicken breast stuck so bad I had to chisel it off with a spatula and a prayer. Turns out the folks telling you to heat it up first weren't lying for fun.

You chiseled it off with a prayer? @ivan_harris, how long did you leave that bird on the heat before you finally gave in?
