Saw a TikTok claiming you should never tip at restaurants because "it enables low wages"
Ran across this video last Tuesday from some guy in Austin who said tipping is just a way for owners to offload payroll onto customers. He argued we should all stop tipping to force wages up. Problem is, if everyone stops tipping tomorrow, servers don't get a raise the next day. They just lose half their income and quit. Has anyone else seen this logic pop up and actually talked to a server about what they think?

Your cousin is absolutely right. That guy probably makes videos from his apartment while servers are literally running miles every shift and hoping the next table doesn't stiff them because of nonsense like this. It's wild to me how people who have never touched a POS system in their life think they've cracked the code on restaurant economics. My friend has been serving for over a decade and says the only thing that would happen if everyone stopped tipping is people would quit in droves and then there'd be nobody left to serve the people who made the video. Solidarity with your cousin and everyone else in that industry, seriously.

My cousin waited tables for 8 years and says that TikTok guy has never worked a single shift in a restaurant.

Oh man, my friend once had a table tip her a penny just because the cook forgot their extra sauce.
