Rant: My uncle still calls 'Matlock' peak television and I finally stopped fighting him on it
We were at his kitchen table in Dayton last Saturday and he had the 4pm rerun on like always, and when I joked about the show being slow he got real quiet and said it was the only thing his dad watched with him before he passed. I sat there through two episodes and started noticing how Ben Matlock always takes the case nobody else wants, and it kind of got me. Does anyone else have a family member whose impossible TV taste turned out to mean something way bigger than the show?
My grandma was the same way with Wheel of Fortune. I used to roll my eyes at it every time I visited, then one night she told me she and my grandpa used to watch it every evening before he got sick. After that I just started sitting with her and calling out the answers, and honestly those nights are some of my best memories now. Sometimes the show is not really about the show at all. Good on you for sitting through those two episodes with your uncle.
