Warned my crew about a late night Cheaters marathon and lost 5 hours of sleep I will never get back
So last Thursday I figured I would throw on one episode of Cheaters while eating dinner, just to laugh at how staged the whole thing is. Six episodes later it is 1am and I am fully invested in whether Joey Greco gets stabbed again in the parking lot. Here is the problem, the show is trash but the reruns are cut in a way that every episode ends on a cliffhanger, so the network just rolls the next one automatically and you never get a clean spot to turn it off. I told my foreman the next morning I was dragging and he laughed because he did the same thing with Blind Date back in 2019. The real trap is the commentary, once you start ranking which host handled a meltdown the worst you cannot stop, I have a whole tier list now. If you are going to dive in, set a timer on your phone and put the remote across the room, I am dead serious. What show got you like this, where you only meant to watch one and looked up at 2am?
Are we really blaming the network for having no self control though? I get the cliffhanger thing but come on, that is just basic tv doing what tv has always done, and you had a remote in your hand the whole time. Nobody tied you to that couch, you could have hit pause during the credits and walked away, or better yet just turned the thing off mid scene and survived the mystery. Saying the reruns are "cut" to trap you is giving the show way too much credit, it is the same lazy editing every reality show has used since the 90s. The tier list thing though, that part I believe, because once your brain flips from watching to judging you are basically doing homework for fun. Still, five hours of sleep lost is on you, not Joey Greco.
