Hit 50 failed macarons before my first decent batch

I kept a baking log and hit 50 straight fails before I finally got a batch that looked right. For months, every weekend was a new disaster: hollow shells, cracked tops, no feet, you name it. The 50th fail was a batch that spread into one giant cookie sheet. I was ready to quit. Then, on try 51, I finally got the meringue stiff enough and let them rest for a full hour. They came out with feet and smooth tops. It wasn't perfect, but it felt like a win after so much mess. Has anyone else had a specific number of fails that felt like a turning point?

Honestly I used to think macarons were just overhyped cookies.

Wow, fifty straight fails before one decent batch is wild!

Right? That's not baking, that's a full on science experiment with a 2% success rate. My kitchen would look like a sad, flat cookie graveyard. The victory lap after batch fifty-one must have felt like winning the OLYMPICS.
