Rant: my oven door was off by a quarter inch and it took me 8 whole batches to figure it out
I kept burning the bottoms of my cookies while the tops stayed pale and doughy, and I blamed everything except the oven itself. I rechecked my recipe, bought a new sheet pan, dropped my temp by 25 degrees, and even switched flour, but batch after batch came out the same. After about 8 ruined trays over 3 weekends I finally laid a level on the door and saw it was hanging down a quarter inch on one side. The gap was letting heat pour out the top, so the bottom coil was doing all the work. I fixed the hinge with a screwdriver and a shim, and my next batch came out even for the first time in weeks. Has anyone else had a wonky oven door mess with their bake, or am I the only one who ignored the obvious for that long?
