That lady at the farmers market told me my bread looked like a sad potato

I was selling my first batch of sourdough in Austin and she said that right to my face but then she bought two loaves and came back the next week for more, has anyone else gotten a weird compliment like that?

I read this thing once about how people in Texas give backwards compliments as a form of affection. That lady probably thought your bread looked humble but tasted amazing, so she had to mess with you a little. The fact that she came back for more proves she was just teasing, not being mean. I bet she told all her friends about the "sad potato bread" and now you have a signature thing going. Have you ever thought about leaning into the joke and calling it your Sad Potato Sourdough?

Honestly that Sad Potato Sourdough name is too good to pass up... might have to print labels now. My bread already looks like it's been through something rough so the name fits perfectly anyway. The wife keeps telling me I need to get a sense of humor about my baking failures but this is next level. Maybe I'll lean into the whole thing and start calling myself a sad potato baker just to own it. Pretty sure my starter is emotionally unstable enough to appreciate the honesty.
