A client from my old shop in Tempe made me rethink how I talk about hair texture

He came in for a cut last Tuesday and said, 'You keep calling my hair coarse, but it's just dense.' I'd been using that term for years without thinking. It hit different because he was right, and it made me realize how labels can shape a client's view of their own hair. Anyone else had a simple comment make you change your whole approach?

Yeah, my friend had a client who hated the word "frizzy." She started saying "your hair has a lot of movement" instead and the client totally lit up. It's crazy how one word can change the whole vibe.

Wait, she had to avoid saying "frizzy" to a hair client? That's a wild thing to be sensitive about. You're literally there to deal with hair texture. How do you even do that job if the word frizz sets someone off?
