Chair rent went from $150 to $220 at my shop and the owner's reason bugged me
My shop owner pulled me aside on Tuesday and said rent is going up to $220 a chair starting in May, which is a $70 jump from what I've paid for two years. When I asked why, he said the other two chairs sit empty most days so the rest of us have to cover the difference. I get that bills don't care who's sitting where, but making the busy barbers eat the cost of empty chairs feels backwards to me. I do 15 to 18 cuts a day and the guy next to me does maybe 6, and somehow we're paying the same freight. I ran the math and that extra $840 a year is basically a full set of clippers and a new Andis out the door. Anyone dealt with a shop that works this way, and did you stay or start looking at a booth rental instead?
