I used to think the cheap clippers from the big box store were fine for starting out

I mean, I got a pair for like 30 bucks and they cut hair, right? But after about 6 months, my fades just looked okay, not sharp. Then I saved up and bought a pair of Wahl Seniors. The very next week, a regular client pointed out how much cleaner his taper looked. The motor power and blade closeness made a night and day difference I could feel in my hand. I was just being stubborn about the upfront cost. Anyone else have a tool upgrade that made them kick themselves for not doing it sooner?

Yeah, we all have to pay the stupid tax sometimes. My cheap clippers sounded like an angry bee and pulled more hair than they cut.

Tell me about it, @smith.elliot. My last haircut looked like a toddler attacked me.

Oh man, @knight.uma, that is the WORST feeling. You leave the salon trying to hide it with a hat for a week. I had a stylist once who gave me these weird, uneven chunks right above my ear. It looked like someone took pinking shears to my head. Took months to grow out that mess.

My Wahl Seniors were 110 bucks and I still winced hitting "order." But that first fade I did with them, I literally stopped halfway through just to run my hand over the blend. It felt like a different skill level. What barber tool did you upgrade that actually made you want to go back and apologize to all your old clients for the mediocre cuts?
