Just hit 300 haircuts on my books and the number made me stop.

I was looking at my appointment app last night and saw I'd logged exactly 300 cuts since I started at this shop in January. It's not a huge deal, but it made me realize how many people are trusting me with their look now. Do you ever get surprised by a number like that?

Funny how a simple number can shift your view. I used to just see it as a job, but that kind of count makes you realize it's about people. It sneaks up on you for sure.

Actually read an article once about barbers and hairdressers being like unofficial therapists. People talk about their lives in that chair, good stuff and bad stuff. It's not just a transaction when you're holding scissors near someone's head and they're telling you about their divorce or new baby. The number matters because it shows how many times you were that person for someone, even for twenty minutes. That builds up over time in a way ringing up groceries just doesn't.

You said it makes you realize it's about people, but isn't it still just a job? Three hundred haircuts is three hundred transactions. You swapped time for money, same as a cashier ringing up groceries. The number just shows you've been busy, not that each cut was some special moment. Most people probably just wanted a trim and forgot about it by the next day.
