My old boss at the shop on 8th Street said never rush a new client's first cut, and I almost blew it last Tuesday
I used to think the popular advice about getting new clients in and out fast was the way to go, but my old boss Ray ran his shop on 8th Street for 22 years and he always said the first cut sets the tone. Last Tuesday a guy named Marcus sat down, nervous, said he hadn't had a cut in 8 months after his regular guy moved to Phoenix. I spent 25 extra minutes just talking through what he wanted and checking the shape twice before I touched the clippers. He tipped $15 on a $30 cut and booked his next 3 visits right there at the counter. Ray was right, the extra time pays back more than the chair turnover ever does. Curious if any of you stack your books tighter or leave room for the new guys, because I'm still figuring out where the line is.
