Rant: Tried to fade a kid's hair and it took me 45 minutes longer than it should have

His grandma kept telling me to go 'higher with the fade' even though I knew if I went any higher it would look ridiculous, and I just couldn't get her to back off. Has anyone else dealt with a pushy parent or grandparent who thinks they know more than you do about their own kid's cut?

That "a little more off there" line gets me every time, @lee689. Had a grandma once point at a spot on the side of her grandson's head and say the same thing, and I knew if I took even a millimeter more he'd have a crater. I feel like pushy relatives must think we're holding out on some secret technique or something, like we're just itching to make their kid look bad on purpose. Your mushroom cap comment killed me though, because I've definitely had to stop mid-cut and explain to a mom that her son's hair would flip up like a ducktail if I went any higher. Honestly, my own haircuts probably look goofy half the time, so maybe that's why I'm overly careful about not messing up other people's kids.

The grandma thing is brutal because they think theyre being helpful but they just make everything take twice as long. I had one lady last week keep telling me to take more off the top of her grandsons curly hair and I knew if I did it would look like a mushroom cap, but she wouldnt stop hovering. Eventually I just had to stop and explain it in simple terms like "maam if I go higher his head shape wont match the cut" and she finally backed off a little. Pushy relatives are the worst when they dont trust your professional judgment, especially when you know the kid will hate it later.

Had a dad do the same thing with his kid's fade last month. Kept pointing at a spot and saying "a little more off there" when I could see the kid was about to have a bald patch.
