Realized I was fading my own clients wrong after 6 years, a kid at the shop showed me up

Honestly, I've been barbering for 8 years and always thought my fade work was solid. Then last month, this 19 year old apprentice at our shop in Austin watched me do a skin fade and just said, 'why do you open the lever all the way at the top?' I froze. Turns out I was using too much blade exposure on the parietal ridge the whole time, which caused harsh lines I'd just blend over for ages. He had me drop the lever to half and go in with the corner of the blade, took 10 extra minutes but the finish was way cleaner. Has anyone else had a younger barber point out a basic flaw you never questioned?
