Switched from clipper over comb to shear over comb for bald fades
I used clipper over comb for about 5 years on every fade. Last month I tried shear over comb for the blend line between a 1 and skin. It took me longer at first, like 15 extra minutes per cut. But the blend looks way smoother, no weird lines showing up after a day. I do it on most my clients now unless they want a real fast buzz. Anyone else make this switch and stick with it?

You ever have one of those days where you're just rushing through a cut and miss a spot? My buddy was trying shear over comb for the first time and nicked a guy's ear lobe with the comb... had to run to the back for a bandaid.

Totally agree with you on this one. The smoothness you get from shear over com is just on another level, especially around that transition from skin to a 1. It takes a little extra time, sure, but the finished look holds up way better the next day without those annoying lines popping up. I made the switch about six months ago and I haven't looked back once. My clients definitely notice the difference too, even if they can't put their finger on exactly what changed. It's one of those small tweaks that just makes your work look a whole lot cleaner.

Come on, is it really that serious? A nick from a comb is like a rite of passage, pretty sure every barber has done it at some point including myself. @simonk98 your buddy is fine, bandaids are part of the job and it builds character. I get that shear over comb looks smooth and all but half the time I'm just trying to get through the cut without overthinking every single transition. Clients might notice but they also notice when you take twice as long and still charge the same price. At the end of the day it's hair, it grows back, and nobody is inspecting your fade with a magnifying glass from six inches away.
