That $60 clipper oil vs the cheap stuff, which one actually saves you?

I bought the fancy $60 blade oil kit last fall and my clippers still heat up after 3 cuts, but a buddy swears by the $8 drugstore brand he's used for years. On the other hand, I know a guy who skimped on oil and fried a $200 clipper motor in 6 months, so maybe the pricey route protects you long term. Has anyone done a real side by side where the cheap oil caused damage, or is it all just marketing?
