The difference in my fades from 2022 to now is night and day

I went back and looked at my old photos from two years ago. I used to leave a heavy line right above the ear every single time. Then last summer I started using a shorter guard on the clipper over comb method and it cleaned everything up. Now I spend an extra 5 minutes on that section alone. My clients actually notice and comment on how smooth it looks. Has anyone else had a specific technique that totally changed their fade game?

Respectfully, I see it a bit different. Making the clipper over comb part perfect is important, but focusing too much on that spot can throw off the whole shape if the rest isn't right. A smooth fade is about the whole side, not just one little area above the ear. I've seen guys spend forever on one transition and end up with a patchy look everywhere else. Getting the bottom taper right first and not rushing the blend between sections has helped me more than any single trick. You can polish that ear spot all day, but if the foundation is off it still won't look clean from every angle.

That extra few minutes on the clipper over comb part really does make all the difference, doesn't it? Once you nail the transition right above the ear, the whole fade just flows better and looks way more natural (and clients definitely notice the little things).

Yeah but alice is right, you can't just drill one spot and call it a fade.
