Am I the only one who always thought a verbal contract needed a witness to hold up?
I always assumed a handshake deal was basically worthless without someone else in the room. Then my cousin in Tampa got stiffed on a $2,300 paint job and his lawyer told him a text thread counts as a written deal in most states, no witness needed. Now I'm seeing people argue both ways: some say oral deals are fine if you have receipts or messages, others say you're nuts to skip paper on anything over a few hundred bucks. Where do you all draw the line on when a text message stops being enough?
