Question about my HOA fence rule, they gave me 30 days but the wording says 'may'
Our HOA in Mesa sent a letter saying we 'may be subject to fines' if the fence isn't painted by June 1, but the bylaws only say the board 'may' enforce, not 'shall.' Has anyone pushed back on that exact wording and gotten the deadline extended?

Man, a buddy of mine out in Gilbert went through this exact thing last year. His letter said he "may" get fined and the rules said the board "may" enforce too. So he wrote them a nice letter asking if that meant it was up to their mood that day, and asked for 60 more days. They ended up giving him the extension, mostly because he was polite about it and put it in writing. Worth a shot before you just paint it.
