Shoutout to the tiny font on the back of my gym contract that let me bail after 6 months
So I signed up at a gym here in Reno back in January, mostly because it was $10 down and $22 a month and I figured why not. Went maybe 11 times total before I got bored of the same 5 machines. When I tried to cancel, the guy at the desk tells me I'm locked in for a full year and it's like $180 to break it. I was about to just eat the cost. Then my sister, who reads everything, grabs the contract and points at this line in like 7 point font on the back page that says the agreement auto renews month to month after the initial term unless the member moves more than 25 miles from any location. I hadn't moved. But here's the thing, the next line said the gym has to notify you in writing 30 days before your term ends or it just rolls over with no early exit fee. They never sent me anything. I brought that up real polite and suddenly the $180 turned into a $0 goodbye. Has anyone else gotten out of a contract on a notice clause like that, or did I just get lucky that nobody at this place reads their own paperwork either?
