Update: My landlord's 'pet deposit loophole' in my Chicago lease that I was sure was fake
He put a clause in section 12 saying the deposit was refundable if I paid a $50 'pet registration fee' and submitted a vet letter within 72 hours of move-in, which sounded like a scam until my roommate did it in 2023 and got her $250 back. I pulled my copy of the lease from my email and the exact wording says 'refundable within 14 days of lease end,' so I'm wondering if anyone here has actually enforced something like this, or did the landlord just never expect someone to follow the timing rule?
