Watched a landlord in Columbus charge a $75 "pet interview" fee and it got me reading my own lease again
Last spring a friend tried to rent a house near Columbus and the listing had a $75 pet interview fee, non refundable, just to meet the dog. She paid it, the landlord met the dog for maybe 4 minutes, and then denied the application anyway with no reason given. Turns out in Ohio there is no cap on application fees and nothing says they have to explain a denial. I went home and read my own lease line by line for the first time in 3 years and spotted a clause where I agreed to pay for "routine HVAC servicing" that was never defined anywhere. Has anyone dealt with a fee like this, and did pushing back on it ever work?
