Blew $140 on a "no demo" tub surround kit and it peeled off in 3 months

I saw a display at the home store in Fort Wayne and the guy there told me I could glue a new surround right over my old tile, no tear out needed. Sounded great since my wife and I were both working and had zero time for a full gut job. I paid $140 for the kit plus another $30 in adhesive, spent a whole Saturday getting it up, and it looked pretty good for about 3 months. Then one corner started lifting near the shower head and after a hot shower it came off in one big sheet. Underneath was moldy drywall I never knew was there, so now I'm doing the full tear out anyway. Save yourself the trouble and skip those kits, has anyone ever had one actually hold up over time?
