My $300 heated floor mat was a total waste
I put one of those electric floor mats under my new tile, thinking it would be cozy. It worked for about two winters before the heat got really patchy in the middle. The company said fixing it meant pulling up the tile, so now I just have a cold spot. Anyone know a better way to add heat after the fact?

So you bought a floor-shaped ice pack?

My $300 mistake was a plug-in heated throw that literally started smoking after three washes. The tag said machine washable but the wiring inside just gave up. I tried a heated mattress pad after that for my cold bedroom and it works fine, but nothing beats the feeling of a warm floor. For your situation, maybe look into those standalone radiant space heaters that mount low on the wall? I've seen some that look like baseboard heaters but use infrared technology.

A floor-shaped ice pack is right, it's my own personal tribute to bad planning.

That "tribute to bad planning" line got me. I once bought a special shelf for my vinyl records, a real nice one. It arrived and I spent three hours putting it together, only to realize I had measured the space wrong by a full inch. It's still sitting in my garage, a perfect monument to not double checking the tape measure.
