My contractor said to skip the heated floor in my Phoenix reno, but my friend swears by hers.

I was getting a quote for my master bath remodel and the guy told me heated floors are a waste of money in our climate. Then my friend in the same neighborhood said hers is the best thing she ever added and uses it year-round. Is it really worth the extra two grand or is my contractor right to call it a luxury we don't need?

Ever think about how your own body runs hot or cold? Some people are just always chilly, climate be damned. That two grand might feel like a waste until you're the one stepping out of the shower onto a warm tile in December. Your contractor sees the average temps, but he's not the one living in your bathroom every morning.

My friend in Minnesota has her bathroom floor set to 85 degrees from October to April. It's her single biggest home comfort upgrade. But it makes me wonder, do you think that kind of personal need is something builders should factor in more, or is it always going to be a custom add-on for the people who feel it?

Can you blame someone for wanting a warm floor in Minnesota though? @thomas815 nailed it because the builder sees the average homeowner but your body's thermostat doesn't care about averages. That heated tile cost is way easier to swallow when you're not gritting your teeth stepping out of the shower every single morning.

My thermostat is set to 78 and I'm still wearing socks in July. I'm the reason heated floors were invented.
