My plumber warned me about cheap shower valves after a $900 fix in Denver
I went with a budget valve from a big box store, and it leaked behind the wall within 8 months. Has anyone else had a cheap valve fail way sooner than you expected?

My brother-in-law put in a cheap valve from Home Depot back in 2021 and it's still running fine with zero issues. I feel like half the time these horror stories come down to bad installation rather than the product itself. You said the leak was behind the wall which means either the connection wasn't tight enough or the drywall guy put a screw through something. It's easy to blame the valve but plumbers love to upsell you on their expensive parts too, right?

2021 was like 4 years ago lol that thing is ancient in plumbing terms. I'd bet money that valve is gonna fail any day now, those cheap brass ones from Home Depot are total garbage once the water minerals start building up. Honestly you got lucky but your brother-in-law is playing with fire.
