Saw the worst tile job ever at a hotel in Nashville last weekend

I stayed at this place near Broadway and their bathroom floor tiles were sticking up at the edges like a cartoon. One corner had a sharp point that almost cut my foot. I pulled back the shower curtain and there was MOLD growing between the grout lines on the wall. How do these places pass inspection? Has anyone else run into shoddy work like this in hotels?

Mold between grout lines means they never cleaned before sealing it.

Gotta disagree with you on this one @susan81. If they sealed the grout properly, mold wouldn't even have a chance to get established in the lines in the first place. A lot of times people skip sealing or use a cheap sealer that only lasts a few months, then the grout stays porous and traps moisture. I've cleaned grout that looked pristine right after a fresh seal but had mold spots pop up again within weeks because the seal just didn't hold up. It's not always about dirty work beforehand, sometimes it's just bad product choice or not reapplying it often enough.

My own grout sealing attempts look like a Jackson Pollock painting compared to what a pro would do, so it's not hard for me to believe someone skimped on the sealer. That Nashville bathroom sounds like it was begging for a lawsuit between the sharp tile edges and the mold colony. Last time I tried sealing my bathroom floor, I ended up with a haze that looked like someone sneezed powdered sugar everywhere. Guess I'm the real shoddy workman in my life.
