Bought a $60 wireless meat probe and it saved my brisket cook

I was doing an overnight cook last month and fell asleep. Woke up to my phone alarm going off because the probe hit 203 degrees. The brisket was perfect. Without that alert, it would have been way overdone. The app even shows a temp graph so I can see the stall. Anyone else use these or stick with the old school dial thermometers?

Honestly, the real tech here is an alarm that can actually wake you up from a dead sleep. My regular alarm gets ignored for an hour. But a brisket alert? That's a five alarm fire. I'd probably wake up thinking the house was burning down, but at least the meat would be saved.

My old phone alarm used to get snoozed for 45 minutes straight. I finally switched to one of those sunrise clock things that slowly gets bright, and it's the only reason I get up for work now. The key is using a sound you don't hear every day, like a brisket alert would be perfect. Your brain just tunes out the regular beeping after a while. I keep my actual alarm clock across the room so I have to stand up to turn it off.

Could you sleep through a smoke alarm?
