I dropped $80 on a fancy digital meat probe that promised 'perfect temps every time' and it was a total bust

I read something the other day about how those app-connected kitchen gadgets are basically just betting on the company staying in business long enough to keep the software working. Once the company goes under or stops updating the app, you're left with an expensive brick. That's why I still use my old thermapen, no frills and it just works. I'd rather trust a simple tool that's been around for years than something that needs a firmware update to cook a chicken.

Ugh, I feel that. I bought this "smart" kitchen scale last year that was supposed to sync to a recipe app. Thing could barely connect to my phone, and the battery died in like a month. Total waste of money.

Used to think all that extra tech in the kitchen was the future. Then I got a smart coffee maker that needed a software update just to brew a pot. Spent more time fixing it than using it. Now my old dumb scale that just shows numbers seems pretty perfect. Sometimes simple just works better.

Yeah I totally get that. I went through something similar with a WiFi thermometer. @jenkins.elizabeth said it best about sometimes simple just working better. After that thing kept losing connection mid cook I switched to a regular instant read thermometer. It's not fancy but it works every time and I can leave it in the drawer for months without worrying about a dead battery. I use it for everything from chicken to bread now and it cost me like 15 bucks.
