Nearly lost my brisket to a bad thermocouple at a church fundraiser

We were cooking 14 briskets for a charity gig in Austin and that cheap probe said 203 when the meat was really at 178. Swapped to my backup instant read and caught it just in time. Anyone else had a failing probe screw up a big cook?

My first comp team learned that lesson the hard way with a cheap remote probe reading 190 while the flat was still 165. Now I check every probe in boiling water before any big cook and keep a backup Thermapen clipped to my apron the whole time.
